Race to the Bottom of the Pile

A few weeks ago I went into a frenzy and placed a large number of books on my library queue. And then they were all delivered to my library AT THE SAME TIME. So I got to feel like the awesomest person in the world as I lugged home a stack of YA books that was taller than my torso. (Just to be clear, there was absolutely no sarcasm involved in that sentence. I really did feel super cool.) I am currently in the middle of Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan (which is super awesome and I can’t wait for work to finish so I can read more) but I still have three more books to go!

1) The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima
This is about a boy from Ohio who is a wizard. I have really enjoyed Williams Chima’s other series, The Seven Realms, so I decided to give this one a try. I tend to not want to try other books by authors I really love because I get so attached to the characters that I don’t want to leave them and make friends with a new bunch of characters. Which is why, even though I loved Tamora Pierce’s Lioness Quartet so much that I reread it a billion times, it took me ten years to get around to reading her other series, and when I did I discovered that 1) Many of them took place in the same world as the Lioness books and Alanna herself appeared, and 2) They were awesome. So I’m not making that mistake again.

2) The Hero and The Crown by Robin McKinley
See #1. I read The Blue Sword 12 years ago and loved it so much I reread....blah blah blah. Amazon tells me that this book is a prequel to The Blue Sword, which, again, if I had known that maybe I would have read it ages ago. But maybe the world is telling me that I shouldn’t have to know that; if I like an author I should just read all their books. All right, already, world. I will go on a Robin McKinley rampage if that’s what you want me to do.

3) Mercury by Hope Larson
I was really touched by Larson’s graphic novel Chiggers, so I am picking this one up without knowing anything about it. And I kind of don’t want to know. I didn’t even look at the Amazon synopsis for this post because I would rather discover it for myself.

So will I read these books in time for my March 2 due date or will I be slapped with late fees and shame? Of course, I could always just go online and click a button to renew the books. But that takes all the drama out of it.

  1. Yes, Will Grayson Will Grayson was the best book I've read in a long time. It had soul and vigor and characters... and a very satisfying conclusion.
